The design

The design

The Light is built upon our Halo custom design, employing a blend of woods to achieve the desired sound and create a lightweight, perfectly balanced concept bass.

The Halo design incorporates the X-ergo shaped back, contoured to your body for optimal comfort and allowing the bass to remain in your preferred playing position even when your hands are not in contact, providing freedom for expressive playing.

Combined with its lightweight construction (average 5-string weighs 3,8kg / 8.35lbs) and exceptional balance, this enables not only faster and effortless playing but also longer sessions without fatigue — essential features for any professional bassist.

The body woods

The body woods

We've opted for lightweight swamp ash for the body, known for its light color and distinctive grain figure.

Swamp ash bodies typically provide a nice bottom end and brighter tones compared to other lightweight woods. Its lively 'pop' ensures excellent articulation and cuts through the mix effortlessly, making it perfect for playing fast, articulate notes and for slapping techniques.

As for the standard top wood, we've chosen figured ash, hardened burled poplar or maple for their perfect compatibility with the other woods. However, you have the option to select your favorite top wood from over 40 species available in our stock.

Neck

Neck

To complement the swamp ash body, we've selected one of our most popular neck wood combinations: ash/guariuba/hard maple. Crafted from straight-grained aged woods, this combination produces a very balanced sound: warm, deep lows, bright midrange, and sweet treble, ensuring a well-balanced tone across the frequency spectrum.

Basses with this neck combination consistently sit perfectly in the mix, particularly when paired with the fingerboard woods we have carefully chosen. for the Light

Fingerboard

Fingerboard

With the choice of fingerboard, you have the opportunity to tweak your sound to your personal taste.

Katalox, our hardest and densest wood, exceeds ebony in both aspects. Its exceptional hardness ensures a remarkably quick response and impeccable tone articulation. Despite its density, its medium resin and oil content contribute to a sweeter high end and warmer tone than one might expect. Ideal for a 33" scale and for those seeking a crystal-clear yet warm sound, excellent note definition, and lightning-fast response, this dark brown wood is perfect for chordal or solo playing.

Pau Rosa, with its honey-orange hue, falls between Brazilian Rosewood and ebony in terms of characteristics such as hardness, density, grain structure, weight, and oil content, leaning closer to Brazilian Rosewood with most of these features. This combination contributes to a quick response and articulate notes, while imparting a warm, smooth tone, making Pau Rosa one of our favorite fingerboard woods. It is an ideal choice for achieving a versatile, chameleon-like, all-around sound.

Hard maple, the softest of our fingerboard woods, features low oil and resin content. Its softness lends a warm, dry sound, with a unique emphasis on the high mids, delivering a distinctive metallic fret response. Opt for hard maple and a 34" scale for a funkier, punchier tone with a more vintage character.

Pickups and electronics

Pickups and electronics

The Light can be equipped with either our Bassbars or the Rambar, which houses two Bassbars within a large, radiused pickup cover that functions as a ramp. In both setups, the neck and bridge pickups are strategically positioned in a 'sweet spot.

These custom-made Bassbar pickups, designed to our specifications, produce a clear and remarkably even tone across the frequency spectrum, from articulate lows to singing trebles. Easily molded to any desired sound, they have become favorites among many studio engineers.

Each pickup can be switched between parallel, single-coil, or series configurations using the two 3-way selectors. This works in both passive and active modes. With each pickup offering three distinct sounds, you get a total of 9 usable sound variations with the blend knob set in the middle.

The pickup covers are crafted from wood and can be matched to either the fingerboard or top wood.
